Our last call was about being responsible which is part of the formula of being happy. We looked at how being controlling is not being responsible and how it kills creativity, people become dependent, people become restless, people feel unloved and unhappy.
Being controlling robs the people we work with or for of the freedom of choice. People gain experience, wisdom and strength only as they make thier own choices. Greg gives a great example of this on page 291 of the Real Love in the Workplace book. He basically says if we were a coach for an athelte and each time this person showed-up for practice we did their laps for them, push-ups and taining. When the big game comes and the athlete is sent out to play the game he is weak, unprepared and is crippled by not doing what is necesssary to be an experienced contender.
Where do you control people in your life? What have been the results of this behavior?
